We landed at the main airport on the island, just outside the capital, Colombo. After a bit of confusion getting through customs with the completion of (un)necessary paperwork, we changed our money and met our driver, Tuan.
First impressions of our driver were great; he was smiley, friendly and as chatty as you could expect for someone who spoke broken English.
First impressions of the country were equally satisfying. On the 30-or-so-minute drive to our hotel, we were treated to a beautiful sunset, a sample of Sri Lanka’s green scenery and a glimpse of the bustling metropolis which is Colombo.
After the long journey, an early night was on the cards, ready to explore Colombo the next day.
